I owe the National Newspapers of Ireland €1000. Allegedly.

My gold. Mine
I've enjoyed the Christmas break and hopefully you have too. Having lined up an article about the other game systems I'm playing at the moment and how much I hate my xbox, I was completely blown away by something I read online. A friend passed this to me on Facebook and I had to laugh. Eventually.

A solicitor firm in Dublin (McGarr's) have pieced together a brilliant story about how the media (or meedja as they're known in certain parts) have tried to come up with alternative routes of generating money, which ended up with them issuing a demand to a women's domestic violence charity for them to cough up for linking to a newspaper's website a story about their fundraising efforts that had appeared in the print version of said newspaper. I'm not joking: see the link here and feel free to criticise, review or ask questions in the comments below.

So I figured that I'd do my bit and see if I could get them to issue me with a warning. Apparently 26 links to various websites of members of the National Newspapers of Ireland means they'll charge me €1350. Which is £1094 or $1767 at the time of writing thanks to xe.com (I hope they don't charge too). This got me thinking about things that more traditional forms of businesses are doing to keep their profits coming in: see Ruport Murdoch's losing battle with Google (and Chrome and Firefox's Murdoch-block app) and I thought of GW, seeing as they are the biggest of the Titans when it comes to miniature wargaming and some of the many things that they've been doing in, or not doing, in order to keep their shareholders happy.

Limerick: Brocon, Barbeques & Buggery.

Burkhardt's been at his Sang Guard. But not Sean McDonnell style.
Brocon is being run again this year in UL in Castletroy, across the road from classy Plassey, and I'm heading up along for a few hours before I wander off to a barbeque across the Shannon in lovely Lahinch on Saturday evening. Assuming that the predicted rain isn't torrential.

Although I really should take it for practice I'm not bringing the ETC list as I don't have the models for it and I'm not sure that a regular tournament will give a fair reflection of how it can perform in-game compared to an ETC game. It might sound odd as it is the same game/rules set after all but the armies I would face would on the whole bear little resemblance to those that will appear in Switzerland.

Plus I don't have to cart an army case around and get to spend more time chatting to some friends that I haven't seen in ages.

Treason Season

Well its started early this year as the City Hall isn't flying the Tricolour in favour of the local County Flag. The local sporting flag at that. The civil service housed at the back of the building are at it too.

I can't say I blame them for ignoring government protocol, issued as it was by the department of the Taoiseach. He's got bigger things to worry about at the moment and doesn't really need any more bad press especially with the Civil Service who aren't exactly enamoured with him at the moment.

I'm surprised that someone from the Garda station next door hasn't come in to tell them already...

To be honest I'd be more upset if someone *didn't* declare an independent PROC if we win the Sam Maguire as opposed to immediately pulling the flags down and going back to business on Monday.

In other news, I have been committing my own acts of miniature treason as I too have switched to a preference for red and white objets d'arts.

First post

First post so I suppose I should make sure I don't make any grammatical or syntax errors.

I've not got too much to say just yet apart from the fact that I made this blog mostly so that I could comment on other 40k blogs and cyberstalk a few people.

I'll be updating this semi-regularly with ramblings that relate mostly to GW games (40k, Fantasy, Blood Bowl) but I'll also throw in random thoughts on things that pique my interest in Irish law when the fancy takes me. That should keep my brain from melting and forgetting everything before I sit the FE-1's.

I've got some painting to do in the hope of finishing my Space Wolves before Brocon in UL this Sunday so I'll finish up here.
