Hellbrute: Colour pics of the €85 6th ed Starter Set

The Hellbrute. Damn...
So the pics have been doing the rounds for a couple of hours now and many of you will have seen the pics of the painted Chaos Lord, BA characters and Cultists but the shots of the Chaplain have been few and far between. Oh wait, he's below the jump...

Purdy, aren't they? I'm looking forward to daubing these guys in Black and Pink and crossing my fingers that Noise Marines are really good now so that I can fire rainbow-coloured waves of destruction that would make Bronies spooge themselves. I'll have to wait for the Chaos 'dex before I can finally find that out though.

As for this model - there's some scenery on the base and apparently all of the character models in the box have scenic bases already.

I also forgot that the ETC is starting a day early (today, Friday) this year so I'll belatedly say good luck to the lads and hopefully they'll do well for themselves. The latest (available here) is that they're on table 5 after 2 rounds and will be facing Italy after a loss to Latvia and a win against Belgium so here's hoping they keep the momentum going and get a few more wins.

New Daemon rules in WD

Now Partybuses come in Cavalcades.
By now most of the interwebs will be aware of the newly-released units for Codex: Chaos Daemons that will be coming out in the update in this month's White Dwarf as shown here, here, here and here. To sum it up, there are new rules for Screamers, Flamers and a couple of Slaanesh Chariots. There are rules for Fantasy too but since no-one really cares about that we'll move swiftly along.

The big questions are how much are they and how good are they? €46, which is a bit steep for them, but I'll probably end up getting one for all of the parts that I can use for my Emperor's Children army. Now for the latter part: how useful they are in a list?

ETC Painting

I was lucky enough to be able to sneak off between rounds to take snaps of other player's armies and to have a gawk at the painting competition that was taking place upstairs.

It wasn't just GW but there was plenty of other categories (WW2, vehicles etc.) but the main things that grabbed my attention were the GW, Fantasy and sci-fi.

I found some funky stuff like the Laughing God on the right, although I reckon the guy with the freehand faces on his cloak was the best entry at the show. It was between the Dreadknight and the Laughing God for the front page here but I just like the colours on this guy and he also reminds me of Collodi from Malifaux.

Nid Pics: Tervigon

I took these a while ago and meant to add them up sooner but I forgot about them. This bad boy is a Tervigon made from the Carnifex sprue with the sacks on its back made from rolled-up balls of green stuff.

There's two of these in the army, as well as two Tyrannofexes. Its nice to see people not listening to forum groupthink.

When I get a chance to take pics of the entire army I will. Oh, and 1:11pm on 1/1/11. Kewl.

Its a steep learning curve: Gaelcon Game 1

I've got Ivan's game to add but that'll get pushed to one side. See Ivan: that's what happens when you don't do as you're told. I'll throw up the games that I played at Gaelcon instead, as they're competitive games and people usually learn more from them. I know I do...

There were 6 missions with ETC scoring: 15 for a Win, 10 for a Draw, 5 for a Loss with +/- points based on VP difference.

Game 1 - 5 objectives with Spearhead Deployment

Dave and his Space Wolves

I was happy to see Dave as I always have a great laugh playing him and I was out for revenge . The mission in this game had an objective in the centre of the board and one in the centre of each quarter.

Merl's Daemons. Again.

Next up in long overdue batreps is Angry Merl's Daemons. Again.

I'd played him already and managed to bag Fateweaver in turn 1 before the rest of his army managed to get stuck into my stuff and beat it up and swing the game in his favour. I was still chopping and changing things in my list to get it ready for the upcoming Gaelcon tournament (reports of which will arrive later).

Our mission was 5 objectives (1 in the centre of each quarter, 1 in the middle of the board) and Spearhead deployment.

Cian's Boy's Nob

Well this isn't a long time coming at all...

So only 2 months after I played this game I finally commit it to blog. I do have excuses though but you don't need to hear that (Cork did win though :D), so its on with the show.

Despite the childish title I am not showing photos of Cian's tackle but of his Orks, which are very nice. The ones that are done at any rate. He's got like 7 layers on the skin blended together which takes him AGES to get his stuff done.

As a result there are various cameo appearances by Blood Angel bikes and tubs of peanut butter to proxy as stuff. I know, shocking, but at least I have been labouring hard to get my stuff up to scratch in the past few weeks and most of it will be painted by Gaelcon this weekend, even if Iggy can't go. Your boss owes you big time lad. BIG TIME.

I'll go through this game before I show how my list has evolved over time to what I'm currently using and hope to bring to the Pale.

T-Fex Batrep 2

Well this was game two against Mike's Foreskin and his Wolves. (Peurile, I know). This was the first game with the amended list of the Trygon and extra Hive Guard model so I was wondering how I'd fare.  Mike's list has been in a state of flux with a new list being created every week but he managed to stay in one place long enough to come up with:

Logan
2 x Dreads with Twin Las and Missile (note: this is not a Cyclone Missile)
3 x 6 Wolf Guard with 2 Combi-Meltas, Power Weapon and Fist
7 Wolf Guard with 2 Combi-Meltas, 2 Power Weapons, Fist, TDA with Chainfist and Storm Shield
2 Rhinos
Lasback
Predator with Sponson Lascannons
Land Raider Redeemer with Multi-Melta

T-Fex Batrep 1

Seeing as I'm doing things arseways I might as well be done with them as my time with the Nids draws to a close and I want to go back to fiddling with the Wolves (grow up).

The first game was against Jonny's Marines painted up as Legion of the Damned while the second was against Foreskin's Logan Wolves. Jonny had been playing with his Marines for ages and wanted to try something different so he ran with a Marine-heavy army with Pods and Rhinos while Mike is still chopping and changing his Logan list.

It was after the first of these games that I realised that the trio of T-Fexes had to go...

T-Fex Batrep 3

So I've been espousing the merits of the Tyrannofex as has Kirby over on 3++ in order to combat some of the internet stupids that are claiming the thing is a write-off. That these are also the same people that complain about the Nid book in general isn't a great surprise...

Since I'd claimed they were useful I figured that I had to put my money where my mouth was and give them a run-out and see if they were any good, or if I was simply talking through my hole. I've got 3 games up where the list evolved over time and this one is the latest game with a T-Fex list I would recommend so that's why its going up first and not chronologically.

Angry Merl's Chaos

Well. I wonder how many people remember Angry Merl and his controversial Jacket? I managed to get another game in with his Chaos a few days ago with his list slightly amended from last time.

His list was (roughly):
2 x Daemon Princes with Wings, Mark of Nurgle
2 x 3 Oblits
2 x 7 Plagues with 2 Meltas, Power Fist in Rhinos
8 Berzerkers with Fist in Rhino
8 Berzerkers with Fist in Rhino

So armed with our Rum & Cokes we got ready for war...

Brother-Captain Lucius' BA

I've been meaning to post this up for a while but now that I need to keep busy I figured it was a good idea to do so. I had a game arranged and lulz ensued when B-C Lucius asked for advice. The lads asked for a batrep but there was little point as it was over by the end of my turn 2 so we organised a rematch.

Brocon game 3

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Brocon Game 2

So after my first game draw I was put against Mike and his Eldar. I had no idea about what he had as I'd never played him before but my buddy Floody told me in passing that he was a very good player so I was expecting a tough game. I've always had trouble with Eldar - Fortune has been a curse against me in many of my games and when you seeing Holofields and Spirit Stones on Falcons you know you're in for a long day. Mike had both. Multiple times. Gaysauce Double-Penetration.

Brocon Game 1

So the week after Conclave I got to return to Limerick and my old stomping ground of Casteltroy where UL can be found. This was Brocon's inaugural year and we were expecting something good as there was a large group of people pre-booked. This tournament used the ETC scoring system of 15/10/5 +/- VP system.

32 turned up on the Sunday for 40k: 2 were too hungover, 4 got stuck in Cork after their lift bailed and some others had work commitments. Still, a decent turnout for a first-time tournament. This was the last tourney that would take place before the ETC and the entire Irish team showed up for practice with their lists. There were spot prizes for people beating a player on the team during any round so this was an added incentive for everyone else to get one over on them.

Thunder Wolf Cavalry

Seeing as I despise the Steroid-Gerbil/Steroid-rat/Hairy-Cow/Muscle-Cat that GW produced for Canis Wolfborn's mount I decided to build my own TWC. I'm not fond of the idea of gigantic genetic armoured super-soldiers riding even more gigantic genetic armoured-super-wolves either. I like the idea of a Wolf hunting pack so I went with that. The Marines are simply running with a pack of Iron Priest created cyborg canine monstrosities, directing where they go so they can beat face. You might ask why the Wolves look dessicated - well, I imagine that's what they'd look like after a bomb has hit them and come walking through the flames Hollywood style.

Conclave Game 3

After that win I manage to haul myself back up the tables and I ended up playing Chris' Nurgle Chaos army in a Seize Ground/Spearhead mission. I noticed him putting down lots of Obliterator-sized models and I was wondering if I'd be pummelled before I could get my teeth into his army. My mind was even worse as he won the roll to go first...

Conclave Game 2

After losing the first game I was bumped down the tables and was drawn in a Kill Points/Dawn of War with Fionn's Eldar army. His list from memory was:

Avatar
Farseer with Doom, Runes of Warding (no Fortune, really)

19 Storm Guardians with Warlock, 2 Fusion Guns
20 Storm Guardians with Warlock, 2 Fusion Guns
10 Dire Avengers with Exarch & Bladestorm

5 Fire Dragons
Serpent with Twin Missiles
5 Fire Dragons
Serpent with Twin Missiles

3 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers
Night Spinner tank thingy
3 Dark Reapers with Exarch with Crack Shot

First post

First post so I suppose I should make sure I don't make any grammatical or syntax errors.

I've not got too much to say just yet apart from the fact that I made this blog mostly so that I could comment on other 40k blogs and cyberstalk a few people.

I'll be updating this semi-regularly with ramblings that relate mostly to GW games (40k, Fantasy, Blood Bowl) but I'll also throw in random thoughts on things that pique my interest in Irish law when the fancy takes me. That should keep my brain from melting and forgetting everything before I sit the FE-1's.

I've got some painting to do in the hope of finishing my Space Wolves before Brocon in UL this Sunday so I'll finish up here.
